OVERVIEW

HARUKA'S WORLD

In the year 2165, a series of nuclear wars known simply as The Doomsday have rearranged the world as we know it. Fortunately, the globe has seen an unprecedented era of peace, following an agreement between newly formed nations to never repeat the mistakes of the past... a pledge mostly seen as hot air, in light of a very public arms race.

Our story takes place on a small island, off the coast of the New United West. The island plays host a great number of cities, the largest being Mancheshire City. It also features a variety of landmarks and entertainment venues, such as the Eden Bowl Nature Reserve, Liverwall's High Ball Casino, and the historic Beamishire county. Mancheshire itself is home to the Arndale Galaxy Complex, a gigantic amusement center. Further from land, an installation has begun construction to facilitate effortless space travel for the masses - Angel's Needle, a gigantic interstellar lift.

Advances in science have brought the ability to evolve humanity in a way far beyond what was previously possible. Humanity has not evolved naturally - but instead science has introduced new augmentations into society, through rewriting DNA. The vast majority of these are simply done for social and cultural reasons - they're basically fashion. Amongst the most desired - and expensive - of these modifications is heightened brain functioning, enabling abilities such as telepathy and ‘mind over matter’. These modifications are written into the genetic code of an individual, meaning they can become hereditary. Heightened brain functioning can be extremely dangerous however, and the safeguards designed to prevent potentially fatal injury come at even further cost. This puts the price of these augmentations far beyond most of general society - or at least, the legal means of doing so.

Unsurprisingly, these advances have also seen military use - and one of the most common ways to recieve brain function modifications is to join a PMC such as ACTOR. ACTOR work as a national psychic taskforce, dealing with percieved threats big and small. They have analogues all across the world. That said, the enrolment program is extremely strict, and many who enlist simply don’t make it to employment - and have their augments forcibly removed. ACTOR is led by Colonel McCartney, and are generally regarded as having provided the most elite psychic soldiers from any of the world's taskforces - including one with an experimental synthetic body, known only as '02'. But now another PMC, unaffiliated with ACTOR is gaining steam, far from the shores of the NUW. Known as 'Bullseye', and led by mysterious Neo-Dodger, the group has designs on the NUW's leadership - and is slowly equipping itself with the means to make a move.

WHO IS HARUKA?

Haruka is a 24-year old catgirl. She is best described as 'happy go-lucky', and finds excitement in situations others would find serious or dire. She isn't necessarily the sharpest tool in the shed, but she generally means well. Haruka currently resides in Mancheshire City, just off the coast of the New United West.

Animal-like features are simply another prevalent augmentation in the new world, and surprisingly common due to becoming relatively cheap. Some of these augmentations are more extreme than others, but in any case it isn’t something society thinks too hard about anymore. Haruka did not choose to augment herself - her cat-like features are simply hereditary. That being said, Haruka doesn’t actually know much about her birth parents - she was given up at birth, and her foster parents have passed on. Unbeknownst to Haruka until a certain point, she also has psychic abilities. These are pretty limited, but also seem to be hereditary in some way; or at least, that's the only reason she can think for having them. She currently lives in a flat with her somewhat eccentric room-mate, Mimi.

Currently Haruka's work consists of whatever job the questionable agency she’s signed up with sends her (within reason). Her most regular job is as a food delivery driver. Haruka is pretty agile - it’s only in recent years she’s started to put on weight. She’s not especially bothered by it either way.

Haruka leads a pretty normal life - until Bullseye makes its move, and Haruka is thrust headfirst into the chaos. Now she has to contend with Neo-Dodger, try and get along with the cold and short-tempered 02, and even put up with a rich heiress that has a concerning obsession with her. Good luck, Haruka!

WHAT IS HARUKA CHANNEL?

The Haruka Channel is your one-stop-shop for everything you could possibly need to know about my original characters and their surrounding universe; and above all else, information about my main character, Haruka! Artwork, lore, comics - Haruka Channel is intended to give all this information a home beyond social media posts.

(This is from several years ago!)

A lot of the information here comes from a document I made while brainstorming a Haruka game, but something like that would be a ways off yet. As a result, some of it might feel like it's missing some context. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy learning more about that dang cat!
